An Opportunity For Service!

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister…”

(Mark 10:45)

Greetings to the Household of Faith! I’m excited by what I see the Lord has done, is doing, and yet about to do! The Lord has blessed us to once again see another Sunday. Truly we can declare as the Psalmist, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) There is such an ‘air of expectancy’ of what is getting ready to happen. Expect God to show up and let the miraculous happen!

Every day God gives to us should be seen as an “Opportunity for Service.” Often the adversary will cause us to put emphasis on “the woes of this life” or “what we don’t have.” His desire is for us to concentrate on the negative and bind us to a state of depression & helplessness. But when God allows us life by our hearts to keep pumping and our lungs to inhale & exhale precious oxygen…. We owe God praise! “Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.” (Psalm 150:6)

And with each new day comes an occasion (or opportunity) to minister (or serve others). True ministry is not what others do for you, but it’s what you can do for someone else. Remember Jesus declared, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister…” (Mark 10:45) Yesterday we were afforded the privilege of serving the homeless at the Willa Gill Center here in KCK. I applaud Min. Mitchell and our Community Outreach Ministry who took the lead in this, another aspect of us serving the community. We were blessed to pay for the food as well as help serve hundreds yesterday who are homeless and less fortunate than us. Please understand the responsibility we have to serve others!

What have you done for someone today? What kind words of encouragement have you given? What good deed have you administered? Consider the words of an old Christian song that Mahalia Jackson use to sing,

“If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song,

If I can show somebody, how they’re travelling wrong,
Then my living shall not be in vain.”

Study the lesson of ‘the good Samaritan’ in the 10th chapter of St. Luke. At the conclusion of Jesus’ lesson, He said, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37 NIV) Remember God has declared that this is “The Year of Happy!” Be blessed.
