Prayer

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 2:14 KJV

Belonging to God is a blessed privilege, I believe we, myself included, have taken for granted and not fully realized the power of our relationship between us and the Divine Creator, God. Not just any god, it is the LORD God, the Almighty God, the sovereign and most Holy God who is the LORD God of heaven and earth. Though 2 Chronicles 7:14 is quoted often when it comes to prayer and our need to pray, it’s important to examine the benefit of being God’s (my) people. God calls out to His people according to His own name, which also denotes His character, memorial and reputation. This is a powerful identification for the people of God -being called by the LORD God whose reputation is faithful and record true. He keeps His promises and offers this ongoing benefit of access to His Supremacy as a forgiving, healing God.

God is WHO He is and there are no flaws in Him; yet He extends this grace to us in our sinful, fallen nature to: humble ourselves, and pray, and seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. With this guidance, prayer is not just a “church thing,” an event, a wish list to God, for “intercessors only” club right…no, prayer is posturing of our hearts, conversation, minds, and actions in communion (or communication) with God. It is the voice of God’s children getting the attention of God, our ears receiving the voice of God and our hearts conforming to His will. In taking advantage of this blessed privilege, we receive forgiveness and healing. We receive God’s favor to rebuild, restore and renew.
