The Absolute Sovereignty of God
“But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” Psalm 115:3 KJV
Music has always been a part of my life. I love to sing to God and on occasion I believe
in my heart of hearts that He has sung songs of love back to me. Those are special
moments that show me that God is for me and not against me, and that His love is
pervasive! We had these pesky plants outside of my bedroom in the house I lived in
during my High School years. They came from Japan I do believe but none the less,
they were deep rooted and prolific. My parents were concerned because they were
about to take over the whole yard. At first, they began to grow outside my window, then
they spread down the entire north side of our house. Pretty soon they were creeping out
into the front yard, then into the south side of the house. It reminds me of sin today. The
good grass of our yard began to be overtaken by these bush type plants that after they
grew any height at all, grew to become bamboo like, stiff, hard and if they were mown
over with a lawnmower would actually cut your foot if you were barefoot.
I am reminded of the Psalms which were actually love songs written to, for and about
God. In Psalm 2:1-5, it is written: “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a
vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder,
and cast away their cords from us.” And here comes the climax of this song…” He that
sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he
speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.” We won the
invasive species battle. God was on our side! What battle are you scared to lose? How
strong is God? God is telling you today: Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you
today shall prosper, He is saying: Jeremiah 29:11: I know the plans I have for you, and
they are good and not evil, you have a good future in store. Isaiah 41:10 states, “Fear
not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I
will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Let God be true and every
man a liar who doubts the sovereignty of God. Sin cannot stand against a Holy God!
